Mr. President:

I have known Jerry Brown since 1962 when his dad, Pat Brown, was governor.  While I supported his 1976 bid for president, I am not now ready to offer him my support.  Our organization, Teachers for a Change, filed charges to Attorney General Brown about election fraud in the 2008 election for San Bernardino Community College Board of Governors.  Brown did nothing, however the state Fair Political Practices Commission did agree with our complaint of violations of the Politcal Reform Act, indicting and fining the offender.  Brown received large donations from the Indian gaming casinos, which bank rolled the candidate indicted by the FPPC.  While I have serious problems with Meg Whitman's record, we can not support a candidate who did not enforce election laws when he was Attorney General.

On a personal note, your email thanking me for signing your birthday card was well received by my family, especially grandbaby Brookie.  Also thank you for signing the "Keep Our Education Working Act," and hopefully the California State Legislature will pass a budget so teachers can go back to work.

With Regards,

Richard

Subject: Support Jerry Brown

Richard --

For decades, Jerry Brown has been a champion for the people of California. He has served as governor, as mayor of Oakland, and is currently the attorney general.

These next few years offer a complex series of challenges -- for California and our nation -- and there is much we must accomplish together. Meeting these challenges will be possible only if we have bold leaders like Jerry Brown working alongside us.

But winning this election will not be easy. His billionaire opponent, Meg Whitman, has already spent more than $100 million on this race -- shattering every spending record in California. In the coming weeks, she will blanket the airwaves and attempt to drown out every other voice in this election.

That is why Jerry Brown needs your support -- knocking on doors, making calls to your neighbors, and working to get the word out about his campaign for California.

Thank you,

President Barack Obama
